I am from the USA, do I have to pay import fees on my order?

USA Customs have removed the $800 de minimis duty exemption. This means every order you place for USA delivery, regardless of value, will require you to pay USA duties, taxes and import charges to the carrier. This can be well over 50% of the order value. Gilbert Rugby is not liable for this.

Do your Rugby Balls come inflated?

No — for shipping and storage purposes, our rugby balls are delivered deflated.

This helps protect the ball during transit and ensures it arrives in the best possible condition.

To prepare your ball for use, you’ll need a pump and needle adaptor. We offer a range of compatible pumps and inflation accessories on our website. Before inflating, we recommend lightly moistening the needle and inflating to the recommended PSI shown on the ball to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

What size rugby ball do I need?

Rugby balls come in different sizes depending on the player’s age and level of play.

As a general guide:

  • Size 3 – Junior rugby (typically ages 9 and under)
  • Size 4 – Youth rugby (approximately ages 10–14)
  • Size 5 – Full-size ball used by players aged 15+ and in adult rugby

Using the correct ball size helps players develop proper passing, handling, and kicking technique.

For a full breakdown of rugby ball sizing and recommendations, please visit our guide and/or size guide is displayed on the product page for Rugby Balls.

What pressure should a rugby ball be inflated to?

For optimal performance, rugby balls should typically be inflated to 9.5–10 PSI (pounds per square inch), however this can vary depending on ball type and size. Always check the ball for the recommended PSI.

Inflating your ball within this range helps ensure the correct shape, grip, and flight when passing or kicking.

Before inflating, we recommend:

  • Lightly moistening the pump needle to protect the valve
  • Using a suitable pump and needle adaptor
  • Checking the recommended pressure printed on the ball

Check out our ball care guide for tips on inflation and care to ensure optimal performance and longevity for your rugby ball.

What is the difference between a training rugby ball and a match rugby ball?

Training rugby balls are designed to be durable and long-lasting, making them ideal for regular practice sessions, schools, and club training.

Match rugby balls are engineered for higher performance, offering enhanced grip, balance, and flight characteristics required for competitive games.

Training balls typically prioritise durability, while match balls prioritise precision and performance.
