The wait is over – the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 has officially begun! Read along as we take you through the big moments: the first try, and the historic moments that are already shaping this year’s tournament.

The ‘Knock On Effect’ is Gilbert’s exclusive blog series offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 – packed with stories, tips, and inspiration to help guide the next generation of players.

1.     Opening weekend at a glance

What an opener! The perfect launchpad for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

To kick things off, the Red Roses secured 69-7 victory over the USA in front of an electric crowd of 42,723 fans in Sunderland, and our very own Sadia Kabeya scored the first try of the tournament. A sensational start.

The energy only grew as the weekend unfolded. Saturday’s match in Exeter saw France taking the win against Italy. Our highlight? Watching Gilbert Ambassador, Charlotte Escudero, charging through a decisive try in the second half to help seal the win.

The entire weekend was a display of firsts and an incredible showcase of athleticism and team spirit, especially for Brazil, who made their historic debut at the Rugby World Cup 2025, brimming with pride despite the scoreline.
