Gilbert Rugby was delighted to lend its supporting to an emerging rugby playing school this week as they were treated to a bag rugby balls, training equipment and a coaching session by Gilbert Rugby ambassador and England Rugby 7s star Charlie Hayter.
Kensington Aldridge Academy only began playing rugby in September, and now are lining up their first competitive matches.
The sport was introduced in a bid to get children to try new activities, and after proving popular with the year 10 boys, the girls gave it a go and loved it. Now the entire school is taking part, and matches are being organised.
KAA have undergone upheaval in the past year, having to relocate from their original site which sits close to the Grenfell Tower.
Having moved to nearby Fulham and Hammersmith, the bid to create the school’s first rugby team continues.
#TeamGilbert member Hayter said “Sport is a great vehicle to help support children through difficult periods and to see so many pupils playing and enjoying rugby for the first time is fantastic.”
