Gilbert Rugby News — Published on July 20 , 2017

Gilbert Rugby and World Rugby are delighted to announce that Gilbert will continue as the Official and Exclusive ball of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017.

Gilbert have supplied the match balls to every Women’s Rugby World Cup, from 1991 to 2014 and are delighted to extend the exclusive supply through the 2017 tournament. The announcement of Gilbert as the official ball of WRWC 2017 continues their support of Women’s Rugby globally as official suppliers to both the HSBC Women’s 7s World Series and the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Building on the impressive success of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2014 in France, the latest instalment of the tournament, hosted in Ireland, kicks off on 9th August and promises to be the biggest yet. Tickets for the three match days at UCD Bowl in Dublin have already sold out; with hosts Ireland to play all of their Pool C matches against Australia, Japan and France at the venue demand for tickets has been high.

While the UCD Bowl is now sold out for the pool stages on 9, 13 and 17 August, a small number of extra tickets have been made available for Billings Park at UCD, giving fans the opportunity to see the top three nations in the World Rugby Women's Rankings in action in defending champions England, New Zealand and Canada.

Tickets also remain on sale for the semi-finals and finals on the 22 and 26 August at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast.

The ball of choice for the WRWC 2017 is the highly acclaimed Match-XV. Successfully used throughout RWC 2015 in England, the Match-XV has innovation, tradition and performance at its heart.

World Rugby Chairman, Bill Beaumont said: “With just 20 days to go until Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 gets underway, today’s announcement furthers excitement as the teams prepare to depart for Dublin.

“We are delighted to be extending our long-standing partnership with Gilbert as official match ball supplier and I am sure that the ball will play its full part in what promises to be an exciting and highly-competitive Women’s Rugby World Cup.”
