Woodhouse Grove take glory at Rosslyn Park National School 7s

Gilbert Rugby News — Published on March 27 , 2017

Another edition of the HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s is in the books, and once again it was a fantastic event, showcasing some of the finest young rugby sevens talent in the world.

With over 7,000 boys and girls descending on the famous Rosslyn Park site, the tournament was set to be the biggest ever. 823 teams battled it out over a whopping 2,748 fixtures over five days of thrilling action.

Once again, Gilbert was proud to be the official ball of the tournament, supplying Synergie-XV6 balls to be used in matches. The Synergie-XV6 – a ball designed specifically with 7s rugby in mind, is the same ball currently used in the HSBC World Rugby 7s series around the world, and was used at Rio 2016.

Featuring the XV6 Grip that assists long, accurate passing as well as one-handed pickups and off-loads, the Synergie-XV6 has quickly become a favourite of sevens stars. The ball also has a new surface compound, enabling quicker water dispersion to enhance grip with compromising durability or subtlety.

As well as the ball, Gilbert was brilliantly represented as ever on the pitch by our #TeamGilbert schools. Woodhouse Grove School in Bradford – new to the Gilbert ranks – were double winners – triumphing in both the Under 18s and Under 14s Plate competitions. The Under 18s was a particularly tense affair, with Woodhouse Grove coming from behind to defeat Wellington College 19-14.

Other notable performances came from Felsted U18s and Warwick U14s who, both having made it out of their pools, undefeated, narrowly lost in the knockout stages.

Cranleigh won the Under 18s Cup competition after a brilliant tournament – beating Brighton College 28–7 in the final. A big congratulations to them and all teams, along with the tournament organisers – another triumphant week of 7s schools action. We’re looking forward to 2018 already.

Schools Rugby attention now turns to the Natwest Schools Cup Finals being held this week where Gilbert is again keenly represented with Warwick U15 and U18 and Old Swinford Hospital U18 all in action, along with the all-Gilbert affair in the U18 Vase Final with Trent College vs Royal Latin on the hallowed turf at Twickenham.
