Americas Rugby Championships ends in thriller

Gilbert Rugby News — Published on March 10 , 2017

The Americas Rugby Championship came to a close with a dramatic game in Buenos Aires.

Needing to avoid defeat against Argentina XV to win the tournament, the USA Eagles were behind heading into the last few minutes and down two players – but a last-gasp Ben Cima conversion drew them level and they held on for the title.

The ARC ran concurrently to the RBS 6 Nations, pitting the best countries from North and South America, including the likes of Canada, Uruguay and Chile. USA finished with five wins from their six matches, while Brazil had a standout campaign, beating Canada to back up their famous win over USA last year.

It was a stellar tournament for Cima - Team Gilbert’s newest Brand Ambassador. The 20 year old finished as the competition’s joint highest scorer and excelled at both Fly-Half and Full Back.
