European Rugby Challenge Cup - quarter-finals review
Results from Quarter Finals:
Sale Sharks 19 – 25 Montpellier
Gloucester Rugby 21 – 23 Newport Gwent Dragons
Harlequins 38 – 30 London Irish
Grenoble 33 – 32 Connacht Rugby
For the first time since 2011 the Aviva Premiership, the PRO12 and the TOP 14 all have representatives in the semi-finals.
A try from Newport Gwent Dragons scrum-half Charlie Davies 4 minutes from time sent the Dragons through to the European Challenge Cup for the second year in a row with an impressive win over Gloucester Rugby, ending their record breaking 15 game winning streak in Europe.
Three-time winners, Harlequins, are into the semi-finals for the fifth time in the club's history following an 8 point victory over London Irish in an exciting high scoring game at the Twickenham Stoop.
Montpellier have reached the Challenge Cup semi-final for the first time; the TOP 14 club won the European Shield – then a third-tier competition – in 2004 but have booked their place in the second-tier Challenge Cup after a hard fought victory away at Sale Sharks.
Jonathan Wisniewski kicked Connacht to a one point defeat in the European Rugby Challenge Cup to bag a win against the odds for Grenoble and earn the Top 14 club an away semi-final trip to Harlequins; their first semi-final appearance in a European tournament.
