Gilbert taking Sixways by storm in Championship

Gilbert Rugby News — Published on November 13 , 2014

Director of Rugby Dean Ryan added an array of quality to his squad over the summer as Warriors focus their attentions on an instant return to the Aviva Premiership.

And one signing who has certainly taken Sixways by storm is flanker Mat Gilbert. The former Bath man notched two more tries against Bedford Blues last Friday during another class performance.

His reward was a call-up to the Barbarians squad which defeated the Combined Services 31-15 at the Rec on Tuesday night.

Gilbert lined-up alongside Warriors teammate Josh Drauniniu for the BaaBaas, who raced over for two tries during the match.

The younger members of the Sixways squad were also in action last night as three Tiff Eden penalties helped the Cavaliers to a 9-5 victory at Oxford University.

The six-try victory over Bedford means Warriors have closed the gap at the top of the Greene King IPA Championship table to just two points.

On Saturday, Ryan and his side face a long trip to Devon to face bottom-of-the-table Plymouth Albion.

And against potential banana-skin opponents, Warriors will set their sights on digging in, fronting up and returning to Sixways with the points.
