QUARTER FINALS REVIEW

Arguably the key moment out of all of the quarter-finals came in the 49^th minute of the Wales vs France match, when French lock Sebastien Vahaamahina received a red card following an elbow to Welsh flanker Aaron Wainwright. France were 19-10 up at the time, but went on to lose the match by a solitary point, 20-19.

Elsewhere, England were clinical in a strong performance against a Wallabies side who dominated the early possession but then lost their way as the rose of England ran out 40 points to 16 victors. The All Blacks, Rugby World Cup 2015 Winners, looked dangerous in their demolition of Ireland. A brilliant performance from the kiwis saw them win 46 points to 14 in what was Ireland skipper, Rory Best’s farewell international in the famous green of Ireland. In the final quarter-final of the weekend, the popular hosts, Japan, produced a battling display, dominating possession in the first half against the Springboks, but were unable to make their 68% possession pay. Despite only leading 5-3 at half time, South Africa were clinical in the second period as they ran out 26 points to 3 winners over the Brave Blossoms, ending their impressive tournament on home soil.
