Gallagher Premiership Rugby 2019 goes out with a bang.
Saracens have retained their title and achieved a Domestic and European Double after defeating Exeter Chiefs in the inaugural Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final at a packed out Twickenham Stadium.
Just 27 seconds into the game, Exeter scrum half Nic White scored the fastest try ever in a Premiership Rugby Final putting his team straight into the lead. At half time, Chiefs retained their position with a hopefully 22-16 scoreboard.
However no one expected what was yet to come as Saracens fans saw the biggest-ever comeback in a Premiership Rugby Final. Being 11 points down in the middle of the second half, Saracens thundered their way back into the lead with tries from Liam Williams, Sean Maitland and Jamie George.
Man of the match was Maro Itoje not only displaying a game changing lineout with only minutes to go, but his superlative competitiveness and fitness ensured he could pressure Exeter into crucial mistakes.
Has this been the greatest Premiership Rugby Final of all-time? With 10 tries scored overall, with the highest number of points in a Premiership Rugby Final, with the lead changing hands throughout the 80 minutes, and with Saracens making history – it might just well have been.
A fitting end to an enthralling season of Gallagher Premiership Rugby. See you in October!
