| General Info: | After shrugging off the ill-effects of a spate of injuries in 2008, Steven Sykes returned to the Sharks side towards the latter part of the Currie Cup, partnering captain Johann Muller at lock and adding robust physicality to a hard-working and hugely impressive tight five. Under the watchful eye and learning at the side of the experienced duo of Johann Muller and Johan Ackermann, Steven Sykes has really blossomed in the last year, and with the opportunities given to him, really let loose in the Currie Cup in the latter half of the season. A player in the same mould as the other two, he combines good lineout play with physicality and support into his game, performing a vital tight-five role. Sykes is expected to grow in stature with more game time under his belt and will look to cement his place in the team in 2009. | |
