Great News stormed the Kampala Tag Rugby Trust office as two of our own local tag rugby coaches Benon Kizza of Heathens and Regina Athieno of Black Panthers were voted best male and female Rugby players for the year 2010

Regina Athieno also swept the schools MVP award in November last year. She is a pure tag rugby product whose excellent skills of play have seen her raise to ranks very fast. The City High school player and Tag Rugby coach was last year cleared to play for the national team as a minor of which she did to her best putting up excellent performance in the Elgon cup, national 7’s circuits, Regional Bamburi series and in the maiden League. Regina’s daring classy performance has seen many young girls attracted to playing rugby and encouraged primary school girls multiplying numbers of females involved in the game.

Benon’s outstanding performance at national level, for his team Heathens and in the Bamburi regional series 2010 was smashingly eye catching. This youngsters record of 4 tries, 9 penalties and 26 conversions garnered him more points to beat off competition from Kobs’ Lawrence Wakabi who had a record of 7 tries, 4 penalties and one conversion. His consistency in play for the team earned him the top scorer and most valuable players awards in 2010, he capped off an impressive year by appearing for Uganda at the Commonwealth games, playing against England, amongst others.
